Influencing democracy, democratizing influence

Today's society is larger and more complex than ever before. Influences are exerted to influence its evolution. Different players come into play. Yet democracy is not a game. It's an issue. Who influences whom? Does defending particular interests run counter to the general interest? Is lobbying democratic? Yes defines the rules? Who are the new protagonists in this shadow theater in which our daily lives are played out? Ultimately, what price do consumers, voters and citizens have to pay? In ten or so chapters, sociologists, journalists, academics, lawyers and consultants offer their insights into these issues. This book provides useful pointers on the practice of lobbying, and offers an original reflection on our lives in a world under influence. Finally, it suggests that readers join a petition calling for the regulation of lobbying in France and the European Union. This book is published by the Association Française des Conseils en Affaires Publiques (AFCAP), one of whose missions is to stimulate and federate reflection, analysis and foresight in public affairs.
